Postcards - Tasmania

I love making these postcards, but it's certainly no easy feat trying to design a typical Tasmanian scene that will be easily recognised but is simplistic enough to be able to be appliqued. Contemporay is definately the go. I hope my 'contemporary' trees are acceptable to you, I had a few issues with these. I use the word comtemporary very cautiously as I know sometimes this can be another way of saying it's 'shit'. The first person to recognise the scene, gets one for their very ownsome for free.

These will be available at the next Made with Love Market Bazaar this Saturday 9am-1pm at Artscape, 45 Jackson Street, Wynyard, Tasmania. But snap them up quick as I only have limited stock for now. Cost $7.50.

Naughty Dolls

Ok so enough of the summer, camping, surfing and general dossing around in the sun, it's probably about time I slipped back into my sewing room hey? Not that I'm sad about that, i'm pretty excited actually. I have several new projects i'm keen to get going on. And it's not that I've been sat around doing bugger all, it's just that my sewing has mainly been for our dear little caravan or ourselves. Giving sewing for the market abit of a break has kinda been nice. But I have to say the old brain cells have been working overtime storing all those day dreamy ideas for future projects and these little dolls were first on the cutting table.

But oh dear, now I have a problem. I had a photocopy of the pattern from a fund raiser book. The pattern was attributed to Joanna Monte. That name sounded familiar and I always like to credit designers so I did a quick google search and I have now discovered that this is one of One Red Robin's patterns. No wonder I liked it so much, such a talented designer. So now I feel I can't sell these.

Hmmm what a shame. Maybe these will have to be one-offs, and I promise not to do it again! Naughty dolls.

Postcards - Wynyard

At last, I can happily announce that I will have some more postcards available at the next Made with Love Market Bazaar on Saturday 14th April. I love making these as much as you love having them. Thanks so much to all those who have bought them and for all your kind supportive comments at the market. It's so encouraging when a product is successfull. And they'll be more designs to come soon.

The Made with Love Market Bazaar is a buzzy little community market influenced by vintage style with a modern approach to craft. We aim to offer enviornmenatlly friendly products, locally grown produce and unique gifts while still retaining the lovely nanna style traditions associated with a country market. Markets are held every second Saturday of the month between 9am - 1pm at Artscape, 45 Jackson Street, Wynyard on the North West coast in Tasmania. Cost $7.50.

To Market To Market

Sarah, Michelle and Me - Trashy housewife theme market
It's been so long since I mentioned our little market the 'Made With Love Bazaar' and I actually have a very big reason to mention it now as we will celebrating our first year of success at our next market in November. It can't believe it's been one year since we decided to stop talking about it and do it!

I first met Michelle when we were at an antenatal group. We were the 'naughty' ones who got the giggles during the birthing video, talked about sewing when we should have been discussing birth plans and left the group feeling pleased we'd met each other but not really knowing much about what we were about to experience in child birth!

During the months that followed it wasn't just our babies that were born but a plan to start some kind of co-op/market to sell locally handmade products. Michelle was heavily involved with the local art scene and therefore had many contacts, a suitable venue and was ultimately the one that was brave enough to run with it.

We were also eagerly encouraged by the other 'stitch n bitch' girls who were excited about becoming involved in a community based handmade market. And thank goodness for Sarah, who managed to organise all our chaos. So it was with nervous anticipation that we all set up for our first market, hoping and praying that enough people would come along to make it a success.

The community has really embraced our market and we are so appreciative of them, especially our 'regulars'. We have also been blown away by the amount of talented artisans on the North West coast of Tasmania wanting to become involved, it is just amazing it really is.

Last week I saw a friend in town, a friend that is very supportive of local artisans and has been supportive of our market and she said "you know you guys should be so proud of yourselves and what you've achieved, everyone talks about the market and how brilliant it is". Thanks Alison, we are and it was lovely of you to remind us. Thanks also to everyone that is or has been involved; shoppers, stall holders, Naomi our photographer, the Advocate Newspaper, SeaFM radio, buskers you've all been awesome and we couldn't have done it without each other. Cheers all and here's to another year of fun and dress-ups. Come along and experience the LOVE: Artscape Building, 45 Jackson Street, Wynyard, Tasmania every second Saturday of the month between 9am - 1pm.

My Creative Space

After coming over all inspired, refreshed and excited by my new book Sewing Clothes Kids Love, in my creative space I have been working on my new children's clothes range for the Made with LOVE Bazaar and I have to say, it's been a big hit with little Maggie-May. She has given me lots and lots of feedback on every miniscule detail! Her favourite was the wolf on the 'little red riding hood' ribbon.

I'm still trying to maintain the gypsy theme, so lots of ruffles and bright mismatch colour but I fear the style is more imaginary than real-life.

I made more recycled blanket jackets which I posted about before here, here and here as well as some trousers using the Dortje pattern. I love this style because it's given them more of a jeans look than just plain pyjama style pants. I've been looking for a pattern like this for ages, although I did alter it a little by straightening off the kick flair for the smaller sizes. I like the kick flair for older children but hate that 'Elvis' look it gives toddlers.

Of course I'm still using the usual op-shopped fabrics, bed linens, doilies, table clothes, tea towels, zips and buttons but mixing it all up with my very special new ribbons from Farbenmix.

I've also been playing around with my jersey knits more than I ever have. It's especially handy the way these curl over on the ends, I love that for a change from the normal seams.

I can't wait for our next market as I missed the last when we were away at the surf competition, which Kim came 3rd in - stoked!!!! The fancy dress theme is 80's and at the moment I'm thinking Karate Kid, Breakfast Club or Dexy's Midnight Runners and as a back up I can always get a disgusting satin prom dress from my local Vinnie's that has the best dress-up hire upstairs.

The market is on Saturday 9th April between 9am-1pm in the Artscape Building, Jackson Street, Wynyard, Tas. I wish you could all come, you'd love it so much.

Thanks for continuing to host My Creative Space Kirsty, it gives me an aim every week. See more here.

Feeling the LOVE

What with all that's been going on in my imaginary gypsy life, is it any wonder that at the third 'MadewithLOVEBazaar' I ended up looking like this in just my normal clothes? The theme was "hippie love".

Inspiration is a wonderful thing. Soak it up and see how much fun you can have. I loved being a hippie gypsy. Recognise the dress, I posted about it before here.

These were taken when me, Michelle and Sarah were playing in my mums aka 'Dora the Explorer's' camper van. Don't you reckon that Michelle looks like Gypsy Rose - Fortune Teller?

Hehehehe. Mum bought the textiles in Rajasthan. She was there for six weeks in October/November. She painted a traditional Rajasthani design on the floor and everything else a beautiful warm aqua blue, tiled the top of the small cupboard and stuck little round mirror tiles everywhere. It looks absolutely brill.

The 'market girls' have been so busy making so many new things for the market after our sell-out success of the first two. We're also really looking forward to welcoming new stall holders to our next market on 12th February, just before Valentines. Dress-up theme is RED.

If you fancy being part of this cool, fun, funky market, please visit our Facebook page for contact details, we'd love to hear from you. I'll leave you with a quick peak at some of the goodies on offer at the MadewithLOVEBazaaar in Wynyard, Tasmania, Australia.

MadewithLOVEBazaar

The Made with LOVE Bazaar is now two markets in and we have just set the date for the next fab market on Saturday 15th January. I'm so digging all this marketing at the mo, and so is everyone else which is just brilliant. And so was the 1950's dress-up. We had a couple of new girls this time. Melanie selling fabric covered hair slides, hair bands and buttons. Jade who makes hand bound books and cards from japanese paper. The gorgeous Allana , the high maintenance hippy who converted a corner of the kitchen into a gorgeous tea shop.

Allana also had a stall selling herbs in cup and saucers and crochet christmas baubles. So cute.

The gorgeous Georga  (who knows someone who's selling a fully converted double decker bus, pretty pretty please santa) had a little stall selling Lotus seeds, a natural deodrant which smells divine and some very cool paper mache yellow submarines.

And I love these funky aprons too.

The market is held in a little building which has separate rooms and a main larger gallery room. This works really well for the market and allows people to just mooch about and stop for a cuppa. There is also heaps of outside space at the front and an enclosed back garden so we're really excited about having more stalls and a whole lotta fun in the summer.

The 'stitch n bitch' girls have been so proud of each other and the market, and the community has really been able to appreciate the pleasure of buying locally made.

We're currently looking for buskers and someone to do face painting. We'd also love to invite anyone who makes natural beauty products, soaps or jewellery and we'd also love to have a plant stall. Dress-up theme for next market is 'Hippie LOVE!!!!
